Vespas everywhere

Anyone notice all the vespas on the Kerry/Limerick - Dublin road yesterday? There were hundreds of them and seemed to be heading towards Dublin continuously for the day.

Seemed to be driving in packs aswell holding up a lot of faster moving traffic. There was a "yoke" on the motorway yesterday evening that looked like a Vespa with a mini garden shed around it and it cant have been moving faster than 30mph. It was an accident waiting to happen as most cars on the motorway will assume that it would be moving faster than that and have to put the anchors on pretty quickly when you realise it isnt

What cc are in those Vespas - I presume more than 50?

Most common I'd say are 50 and 125 cc, but I think they run the range from 50 up to 250 for some of the newer ones.

Saw a load of them coming from the Wexford/Rosslare direction on the N25 near New Ross on Friday evening. Vespa tour of Ireland??

We saw loads of em yesterday too. They weren't Irish reg'd bikes. I remember someone mentioning that they all had German plates

Probably a fun run, like this

A 50cc Vespa would be unusual enough. The most common is 125cc.

I would of assumed that myself, most of the ones we past on the M7 were tipping along at around 90-100 kph. I can't imagine a 50cc would get up to that speed!

There was an international scooter rally in Kilarney this weekend.

There seemed to be a scooter rally in Kilarney... most were Lambrettas by the way.

My 50cc Piaggio can top 90kph no bother.

I think those older machines were in fact mainly 125 or 150.. some 175s and the real petrol heads go for the 225 conversion.

They were all travelling down last week. Passed a good few on Wednesday heading southbound.

They weren't Vespa's they were Lambrettas and there was 1 at the side of the motorway broken down every 5 miles or so.

There seemed to be another motorcycle run on which is what had the rolling blockade on the motorway. I passed it on the Nenagh by pass at 4.15.

Both lanes of the motorway blocked by support vehicles even though the bikes were in the driving lane only. There was about a 2 mile tailback following.

    MADNESS

+1, Killarney town was filled with them. I think the event was on at the Gleneagle (INEC).

Imagine coming across that while driving, two options:

    Go for highscore
Kill yourself there and then to avoid the misery of trying to pass them all out, it'd take hours

Correct. It was the turn of the Lambretta Club of Ireland to host the annual Euro Lambretta Jamboree this year.

Pretty long journey Dublin to Kilarney and back on those, especially if reliability is an issue
