    Hi,
I my mum is buying a 307 and the woman selling it said that an ABS sensor and an anti-Pollutant fault. Are these big deals, would it be expensive to have it fixed and can the car still be driven with it like that?

    Thanks

Are you sure it's an abs sensor? Not, just an Airbag sensor? Our 307 has an anti pollution fault and and an Airbag fault but it never effected the car..Just drives on :)

Okay thanks, do you know what the anti-pollutant is all about?

I'd either get the seller to fix it and then do the deal OR keep looking for an alternative without the problems.

Iv just text the seller, shes getting it fixed on tuesday and if we dont have one by then we will get it of her.

I wouldn't take her word for it that its just a sensor. If its only a sensor, she won't mind getting it replaced if you plan on buying it.

The whole system might not work the one time you need it, same thing with the airbag light.

EDIT: Good that she's getting it fixed.

Why buy a car with a fault?

Because it was at a decent price and it it wasn't expensive to fix I would have just got it done.

Buying a car with two faults is stupid and the 307 is well known for being shite anyway. Why don't people research the cars instead of just buying the first one they see in their price range?

I always thought all Peugeots were rubbish, but she said that she had driven one and really liked it. She is not jumping a the first one she seen, she has already went to see 3 of them since yesterday and didn't take them.

If was only something small that I didn't think it would be a problem buying a car with faults.

Also, make sure the light comes on when you start the car to ensure the "fix" didn't just consist of removing the two bulbs!

Yea someone tried that with me before. But with these its written on a screen as far as I know. But I will look out for the lights at start up.

I think you should bring someone with you who knows something about cars. Its not worth the grief it you get it wrong.

We've been paying for a mechanic to come with us to all of the cars we seen.

So the engine light & abs lights are on, along with an 'anti pollution' error on the digital display. My mothers 207 had the anti pollution error along with the engine light and it can mean one of many differant thing. It turned out she needed a new lambda sensor and a speed control sensor. I would pass on that car unless it's properly fixed.

    Why?

He should have answered these questions so well, you don't need to double check it on the web.

Hes thinks it worth going to see a 307. he should have steered you towards something else. IMO.

    It doesn't add up tbh.

While I'm not one for going into stereotypes, you could nearly argue that Peugeot got its reputation for unreliability because of the 307 (and to a lessor extent the 407)!

I'm sorry but 307's are rubbish, and the reliability is nearly as bad as the much maligned Renault Laguna II.

If you search for 307 and ABS problems you get a ton of results.

At least its not a VW or Seat. They can have an ABS fault that can cost 1K+ to fix if not under warranty.

Top Gear survey didn't like it...

    150th out of 152.

That said I know someone whos on their second 307 and think its great. Mind you they nothing about cars, and are unlikely to admit they had any problems with it if they did.

+1, once upon a time you could get away with the airbag light being on or else an airbag light that had a "defective bulb", but thankfully you will not get away with that any more, and rightly so.

Anti-pollution faults on Peugeots can be anything from a faulty maf sensor to a dpf sensor problem (diesel).
these anti-pollution faults usally bring on the engine light also.

The rear abs sensors can corrode on the 307's and the air gap increases which can lead to an abs fault.

I would get someone with diagnostic equipment and bring them along to read the faults.

1)if the abs unit is faulty and your cat/dpf needs replacment you will need to allow well over a €1500 to sort it.
2)if its corrosion around a rear abs sensor and a faulty engine air temp sensor then €100 may fix it.....Big difference..;)

What year & engine 307 are you looking at....?

She doesn't really seem to care that I think they aint good cars. She just wants it because she likes the look of it.

Her last car broke and is completly useless, this car is only to keep her driving for a few months until she can get another.

The one with the faults is 02 1.4 Petrol
