I'm doing my first sprint event in late august and want to get my first road bike for training and the event along with the many more that will hopefully follow.

The price seems to range wildly from €350 - €3500. Im completely new to this so im looking for someone to recommend me a bike that wont break the bank but will be decent quality at the same time. I wouldn't like to spend more than €600 and a bit less if possible.

I found this bike in Halfords http://www.halfords.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_11101_catalogId_15551_productId_786805_langId_-1_categoryId_212536

Is it any use or is there anything wrong with it?

Also when it comes to size there is a medium and large version is this just down to my height. Im 6ft 0", which one would be better?

you may get more help in the cycling forum on this.

That's not the worst bike for the money, it looks like the offer is only on the large. Best to go in and try it out.

For what your willing to spend though I would look second hand on the adverts thread or donedeal. Also see if you can get the bike to work scheme. You can get more out of your money.

Look at the regulars like Giant and Trek and look for shimano sora or tiagra components.

If you search the cycling forum you will find a multitude of threads.

Unless you're using the bike to work scheme, I agree that 2nd hand is the way to go.

    Donedeal and adverts.ie.

Your €600 should buy you a well looked after couple of year old bike which cost >€1000 originally.

+1 on the second hand one. Get a bike with the best frame you can for the money. You can always update the wheels and spec etc...

It may help to get an idea of your body shape and fit to a bike so you know what size and geoetry frame to look out for. For example a 54 or 56cm frame may be the right size but if you have short legs and a long body you may need a longer top tube. I'd err on the side of a frame thatis slightly too small than one that is slightly too big too if you cannot find a perfect size. With the smaller one you can alway put on a longer stem, cranks etc..
