    Hello
This is a query directed mostly to other 3.0 trooper owners. Has anyone any suggestions form their own experience of the best garage/mechanic/auto tech they have found for working on the 3.0 trooper engine? In particular fault finding and interpreting info that comes up on the Tech 2. Dublin, Midlands, West area.
    Thanks.

They are a fickle yoke to work on, and from what I experienced the Tech 2 tells you fcuk all about what is wrong with it.

    What symptoms have you got?

Power flat spots at operating temp. Not terribly bad but obvious all the same, esp when towing. Bags of power/torque when engine cold though.

Fuel filter, air filter, fully syn 5w30 etc etc all ok.

Had new rail oil sensor before I bought it. My suspicion is that new sensor was not calibrated with Tech 2 to ECU. Engine can run without having to do this, but it wont run properly by all accounts.

To do this now I understand means reopening high pressure oil pipe that feeds rail to ensure zero pressure, then hook up Tech 2. Apparently there is a specific menu in Tech 2 that is used to calibrate new sensor to existing ECU. But I'm kinda lost after that.

I don't think that is the issue tbh.

From what I could see it made very little difference if any at all.

What year is it? If it is the older engine, pre 03, check the where the map sensor connects to the manifold, the small bore there can get blocked with soot

Cleaned the map Slidey, no difference. Also cleaned air intake temp sensor in inlet manifold. EGR valve disconnected ages ago. Am convienced its a sensor issue. Might be throttle position sensor...

Someone suggested blocked catalytic converter, but would have thought constant low power then.

    Its a 2000 model. I think Euro 2 engine???

I can't condone doing this but I have seen a bar being driven through the cats before. It is not uncommon for them to get clocked.

Another issue I have seen that can give funny running issues is the rail oil pressure control solenoid. It slips onto the high pressure oil pump and is held in place with a flimsy looking nut made from pressed steel. Think it is a 30mm

Thanks for that Slidey, will investigate cat first to see if its blocked.
