UPC Connection

Had a HD fail in our UPC mediabox a while back and the engineer re-connected our TV differently which is p**ing me off a bit. Originally the tv was hooked up to the main terrestrial channels and the mediabox had all of the other cable channels. The kids can turn the tv on but not the media box, which meant that when the TV was switched on from cold it started on RTE and not directly into the kids channel they last watched. Now it goes directly into the mediabox which means the kids can access cartoons etc..when we dont want them to. The engineer did something differently as he left an extra splitter on the floor with a section of cable. How can I get this back to the original set up? TV is a Samsung LE550 full HD.

Connection now: UPC wall box, LH plug blanked off, RH plug into a y-splitter. Output 1 from splitter into UPC media box, Ouput2 into Wifi box. TV connected to UPC via scart.

Anyone know how I can get back to original set up?

Leave it as it is, it's a better setup.

You also said your kids can't turn on the mediabox, which means now they can't watch anything without your assistance - isn't this what you want??

By the way, when you say "main terrestial channels" I assume you mean UPC basic cable - which as far as I know includes Nick.

Probably didnt explain it very well. Before the Media Box was replaced the TV was 'tuned' into the cable, Channel1 was RTE1 etc.. The media box was accessed via the AV channel. Now when you turn the tv on you get no stations unless the media box is switched on. So when the tv is switched on, it usually defaults to Nick Jr. Try explaining to a whining 3 yr old that you didnt actually mean to turn Dora on, you wanted the evening news and got Dora by mistake. That's why I want it back to the original set up.

I'm guessing its simply the order they were connected.

Previously the UPC went to the TV and the media box was connect via scart to the TV. Now hes put the UPC straight into the media box and the TV is connected via scart. You could reverse it. But I'd just get a splitter and put the UPC into both.
