Long time reader here, post the odd time.
Anyway just reading all the threads here over time and was wondering how many regularish posters did/do box? And at what weight?
I did, boxed at 57k for years (fairly light:)). Life intervened but hoping to get back at it shortly.

That, formerly 63.5, and 69 Kgs, formerly 67 kgs, are probably the most natural divisions based on the average young (18-25) male in Ireland.
Power and speed really big in these weights.

In the sport, or in competing in the sport?

when did it change from 63kg? Im at that now but to be honest, i would be more comfortable at 57. Bit of a difference in them. Out of interest, is it still 57kg or did that move up too??

It was always 63.5 kgs, or 139 lbs. Changed about 7 or 8 years ago. The 69 Kg division came in at the same time I believe, replacing two divisons, the old 67 and 71Kg divisions. It joined them.

The 57 Kg division is gone now. It is 56kg and 60 kgs. So, it's a choice. Can a fighter get a kg off and stay at 56, or does he need move up to 60 kgs.

i was a big 57, so i reckon it would be 60kg now if i was training. I must be wrong walsh, i thought it was 63 but that was maybe 5 year ago. Must have been 64.

Well, maybe domestically it was 63.5 Kgs, I am not sure, but for competition here and abroad at Senior level, the 64 Kg division has been here for at least 7years. The last Olympic or World champ at 63.5 was from Sydney and Belfast respectively, in 2000 and 2001

    81 kgs.

Well, look at some boxers from years gone by who were very short for the weight they were at. Check out Dwight Muhammad Qawi. Short ass, and fought up at LH-CW and HW
