hello guys i'm in the process of selling my phone to someone to someone on gumtree.

he's from ireland and he states he could pay me by paypal.

I said pay me by cash and he said he has no money only on his paypal account.

the funny thing is that he lives 40min away by train and 2hrs away by bus.

This could be true but i would like to know were i stand if he's not not genuine buyer.

if he uses a stolen payapl account were do I stand ?

Am I guilty of some theft ?

There's no way to know only if paypal were to freeze my account ?

    RESPONSE NEEDED ASAP

    Thanks

If your phone is desirable, another buyer will take it soon enough, so I'd rule out the the PayPal route.

Stipulate collect cash on collection and you'll have no worries 'bout chargebacks, account fraud or the like.

If you're in a rural backwater, that obviously limits the above.

is he collecting the phone? if so refuse paypal as he will most likely collect the item, make a paypal claim of 'item not received', and have it ruled in his favour because you'd have no proof of postage.
if he wants it posted, send it by registered post (at his expense), for the same reason above.

I he only has money in his paypal account it only takes 2 days to withdraw it to his bank, maybe you could suggest this to him as cash is your preferred method of payment.
