Dell Printer Error 1203

I have a Dell 924 Printer for a few years ( I know get a decent printer! but it has actually been an excellent one) but after a couple of days low on ink I now get an error 1203. Elsewhere has said to clean the contacts, disconnect power and switch on again. Hasn't worked. I have no new cartridges and am reluctant to pay…

Elsewhere has said to clean the contacts, disconnect power and switch on again. Hasn't worked. I have no new cartridges and am reluctant to pay €50 for some if the printer is not going to work. Any suggestions??
