Quick question, as I am not sure what to do and thanks in advance for any advice!

I have been offered a job after 7 months of searching and am thrilled :D

However, the job is paid monthly the first payment will be the end of July, a month or so after I start, so there will be 3 or 4 weeks with no payment.
Being on the dole for the last 7 months, I am flat broke, with exactly €1.50 in my bank account :(

The cost of travel alone to the new job works out at €42 a week, or €168 for the month. Is there anyway I can keep a percentage of the JSB or is it a case of visiting my CWO? If so, would I be right in thinking there would be a long wait? Am really not sure what to do.

Will be going to local social welfare officer next week to sign off before I start and can ask them, but hoping I can get some advice here too :)

your best bet is to go to your CWO and explain the situation to them, they may give you a loan and you pay them back when you get your first wage.

Thanks a mill. Think thats the best thing to be honest. Have explained situation with landlord, and is happy enough to wait for rent, which is one relieve anyway!
Will give them a call or call down and see. Thanks :)

If you're on rent supplement, then you can continue to receive this up until you get your first pay cheque (or for 30 days after you start work, whichever is sooner)

You may also be eligible for an Exceptional Needs Payment under the Supplementary Welfare Allowance Scheme http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/supplementary_welfare_schemes/exceptional_needs_payments.html
