    Folks,

I've bought the box above and a iomega 500gb hard disk to record tv onto. The box is working perfectly but when I connect the hard drive it asks me do I want to format it. I select yes and the box turns off and on repeatly. I can't figure out why this is happening can anyone help me?

Try formatting it with your pc. The drive is probably NTFS and should be FAT32.
But windows wont let you format a 500gb drive to FAT32, So download Maxblast, a free tool from Maxtor. That should format the whole 500gb to FAT32. :)

Well you should end up with about 465gb.

I've had no problems using a 32GB USB key, but when I connect my USB to my laptop nothing shows, whereas recording & playback via the STB are fine.

    Formatting FAT32
this utility worked for me. (on 500GB usb harddisk)

    Playback of recordings
playback of .ts files (SD only) possible with "media player classic" from sourceforge
files are located in:- DVR -> RECS

The .ts files can be converted to avi using "handbrake" though for HD files from RTE2 the audio is missing from translated files.
