    hi there,

someone currently in hong kong is trying to get a visa for china. they will be in australia on monday but wont be in any one spot longer than about 3 days.

    they are an irish citizen.

is it completely unrealistic to think they can somehow squeeze in getting a chinese visa along the way in time for august.

who would you call? chinese embassy in ireland? irish embassy in china? chinese embassy in australia?

    any advice?

(nb - you cant get one in hk on weekends so thats out as an option)

    thanks

have a check on the Chinese Embassy website for the country where they're trying to obtain a visa in.

The only option would seem be to get it in Australia? They'll either have to spend long enough in one place to get it or scratch China off the itinerary.

Some Chinese embassies/consulates will do same day visas for an additional fee, or express in 2-3 days. He would have to confirm this with the individual consulate.

Standard service is 4 days and having just got one here in Kathmandu I must say it was one of the most painless visas I have ever applied for with no queues and no questions asked. Application in and out in 5 minutes and picked it up four days later in 10 minutes, visa granted for the 60 days I asked for.

August is over a month away so plenty of time, if he really wants to go there. In all cases he would need to contact the Chinese embassy/consulate wherever he wants to apply; the Irish embassy has nothing to do with it. If he isn't going to be near a consulate in Australia then another possibility is to fly via somewhere with a convenient and compliant Chinese embassy and get the visa there (including the option of going back via Hong Kong.)
