Ok, so I see I cant check in until 30hrs before the flight unless I want to pay for seats so I'm flying back to Ireland from Gatwick. Does this mean I have to waste time looking for internet/print the day before my flight in london?

Is the fast pass thing they mention on their site an option to use in Gatwick?

Can only speak for NY but it looks like they have them at all airports

I hope so!! Ryanair seem to have a better system allowing 14 days to check in.

They have them in a lot of spots. However you can check in without fees in your departure airport - early check in just allows you to pick a better seat.

In this day and age with so many people having large screen smart phones, it is a pity you can't just have your boarding pass on your smart phone like many airlines around the world now allow.

I havent been able to find the fast pass Green automatic check in things the last two times I was in Gatwick. Are they still there?

Where are the FastPass kiosks located?

You can avail of the FastPass kiosks at DUB/ORK/SNN/BFS/LHR and JFK airports. The kiosks are located in the airport terminal, in front of the Aer Lingus check-in desks in the main departures area.

Just after finding this......so maybe they dont have them in Gatwick? So now I do have to go look for internet/printer or arrive at airport alot earlier to check in at the desk.

I'm travelling Aer Lingus next week. I'm going to wait until 30hours before and check in free for my outbound flight.
I'll then pay to reserve my seat for the return journey so I'll have all the checkin done before I leave home.

If you can get the internet (no need to print), you can check in and collect the boarding pass at the Fast Pass machines/check in desks at Gatwick.

You don't *have* to get there a lot earlier, but obviously the earlier you check in, the better choice of seats you have. Mind you, as all Aer Lingus seats are more or less equal, only you can decide when it's worth doing.

If I don't have access to a printer I check in online on my phone/ipad so I can get my preferred seat and pick up the boarding pass at the Fastpass machine or if there is no machine just go to any EI checkin desk and ask them to reprint my boarding pass. Never any trouble other than the time I had to wait in a stuffy queue for 1.5hours in Alicante to get to a desk...

They do on certain routes for android and they have a mobile site for everyone else.

Apps for others on the way

Cool, but a couple of comments, in case anyone from AerLingus reads this:

    1) You should be able to generate the online boarding pass from the normal Aer Linugs website and not just the current mobile site and apps.

The use case I'm thinking of would be someone at home, on their PC, checking in, who doesn't have a printer, might like the option to have the boarding pass sent to their email address, so they can display it on their smart phone at the airport.

I know I never knew this option was available, despite often traveling Dublin -> Heathrow and this being very handy for me.

    2) It is very annoying that you have to enter your family name, flight destination and flight booking number every time you want to check in. This is tricky to fill in on a mobile device.

Ideally the site should allow you to log in using a username and password and then list any upcoming flights you may have.

This will buy you a guaranteed seat but you will not be checked in for the return journey yet. You will still have to go to a FastPass machine or a check-in desk before your return flight.

Just to add the last time I flew from Amsterdam I was able to checkin at the KLM kiosk which is like Aer Lingus's version and get my boarding card for my Aer Lingus flight, you then present this at the desk and they checkin your luggage or go through security to the gate if you have only carryon.
