Yes, there seems to be a fashion for authors to make You Tube trailers for their books. Does anyone have any opinions on this? Would you ever check out a book based on a You Tube clip?

Probably not how are they planning on doing book trailers? would it be of the author just reading a passage from the book?

Only if it was sufficiently high quality. I bought Night of the Living Trekkies based on this trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyO2k-jApng

Wow thats a book trailer looks more like a movie trailer! did you enjoy the book?

That's a great trailer. I want to read that book. Hell, I want to watch that film. What do you mean, there's no film? There should be a film.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OzeuzdWax8 is a much lower budget book trailer.

I much prefer the second one. Even though it was probably easier to make it sells the book much better. The first one just put me off the with creepy CG.

Not to mention the atrocious font.

I've considered making recordings of my short stories, reading them aloud along with adding sound effects, maybe making a short movie out of one or two.

Never really got book trailers, i've heard of them but i cannot imagine people going out of their way to find them and it seems slightly wrong to introduce a book that way because you'll probably show how the characters look in your head or an approximation of how they look, i'd prefer to create their faces in my own head thank you very much.

Really what I'm wondering is if it's worth the time to do one. I have a 10 year old niece who has made a few amazing videos and I'm wondering if I should bribe her to make something for me.

I was thinking of something about bits from the book against a backdrop of Hubble images.

you could always bribe her, see how it turns out and if you like it, use it, what harm can it do if it's good? and if not, don't use it, if she asks why, tell her your publishers thought it was a bad idea to use a youtube video at all, but they loved hers.

no tears if it's not great, cool video to put on youtube if it is.

I would think a youtube video was a bit pointless unless you've got a voice like Morgan Freeman, but something a bit odd could really generate some interest.

No, I'm pretty certain I don't sound like Morgan Freeman. More West Brit, I've been told, though I can't heat it myself.

I'll give ya some video ideas once I finish your book, and cover ideas, but I have to read the scamp first to get to its essence.
