Flicked between U2 and anything else on...During "vertigo" he came right up to the drums and Larry didnt even look at him....definately think there was something going on..even at the interview afterwards Larry looked like he couldnt sit far enough away from them...very quiet, only answered when he was asked...maybe he's starting to hate Bono too....:)
Shyte performance too, predictable and tiresome...it was a bit like listening to Nova....:D

Pity the crowd did not gang up on the fat security heads who went in and threatend to break peoples faces who were going to release the balloon citing their tax evasion, nobody should attend this bloated ego fest for asses next year, some hippie Eavis turnes out to be to send in goons to stop a harmless peacful protest.

It's not on next year as they can't get the portaloos, which have all been snapped up for the Olympics.

    I sh1t you not...

So people can't criticise them because they're Irish irrespective of their performance? Does this apply to U2 or is it everything Irish?

Good performance by U2. The first time they have played a full set to a non U2 crowd since 1985. All the big stage props and lights gone. Old school and raw performace. Larry said he got pissed on with rain and the crowd is too far away from the stage is what he said afterwards. He probably didn't enjoy it.Big deal, who says you have to.

I thought Bono sang really well (probably cos he didn't have the space to be doing laps of the stage that he normally has with a U2 production)

Technically they played much better than I was expecting. I thought they clearly decided to go for a very straight-forward "rock show" rather than all their usual pageantry and they pulled it off - they were as tight as I've ever heard them. In this regard, all 4 of them performed excellently.

But - and it's a big but - the show was missing the magic, warmth and atmosphere that makes Glasto headliner shows winners. It just seemed really subdued and not a lot of fun throughout.

There is one main reason for this I think: I sensed at best ambivalence and at worst hostility from the crowd for them. U2 never owned the crowd, never gave or received love from them. They got some sing-song from them alright, but shag all warmth or reciprocation of spirit. A lot of people in that crowd wanted them to fail I think. When the crowd are not willing to meet you half way like this, the task of being great is nigh-on impossible.

Fwiw, I don't like U2's music but honour them as - no exaggeration - some of the most important sons of Ireland we've ever produced. Ever. They've done more for this country than most recognise and the hard time they get sickens me. I tell you, one day soon Ireland won't have the biggest band in the world and people will realise what they've lost. I doubt we'll ever have this again - not to applaud and thank them for it is revolting.

Ed: Oh, and I thought before the gig that they should start the show with "One", with all the house lights up. I'd anticipated the cool reception they'd get - the Brits have never really liked U2 - and I thought "One" would be a great way to get everyone on their side because it's the one U2 songs that even non-fans, like me, love and would sing along to. As One! All the house lights up would have drawn everyone together and is a spectacular sight in any event. Mistake there I think.

Are you telling me you have never ever criticised an Irish person EVER? Not even one of your neighbours or family members?
