I was thinking of giving one a go myself. I don't have a license, will I need one for this?

Crits are not usually for the faint hearted, will there be one for average fitness levels tomorrow

Should be able to get a day license when signing on.

    Define average fitness.
There's one race for A4s + A3s and a separate one for A2s + A1s ... have you raced in any of those categories before, if so how did you get on?

You do need good bike handling skills for any crit and the pace is normally quite high in them. unless you have been racing fairly regularly, you will probably find it tough. If you are not used to riding at speed in close proximity to other riders then I would definitely give it a miss!

Not doing it myself but for anyone in the Salthill / Claddagh region it kicks off at 6:30 for the first one and 7:30 for the second. Heading down later for a look....

Looks like it's on again this year:

    A3/A4 off at 6:30pm
    A1/A2 off at 7:30pm
I'm definitely doing it this year - looks like a nice circuit.

Sportive on the following day also in Galway.

Sportive on the following day also in Galway.

Went down for a look and went to the start area this year and not many about. I expected to arrive half way through the first race but no sign of any race then it was announced as a 'handicapt' race with a 1 minute interval start gap with the A4's off first.

I think this made it better for the spectators but after a few laps the rain came down and lap by lap more dropped out but fair play to all who continued and to the chap who one in the end. He was out for at least 2 if not 3 laps by himself to hold onto the win. Also well done to those who continued to complete the course even after being dropped by the main groups, some determination to continue alone.

Its my first time watching a crit live, I enjoyed but felt it was poorly organised, I have a bit of cycling knowledge (not much) but until the last 3 laps there was no commentary and at the start limited information on what was happening, also no time gaps being mentioned at all. For anyone going down for a look it was difficult to know what was going on, although maybe it was just me not paying enough attention!

Maybe there all like this but rather then the music on the PA system some information on the riders and the time gaps would give the spectators an idea of what is going on might be a good idea? They could have been discussing todays sportiff as well.

Didn't bother with the sportiff this morning as working all week and the route is a regular part of my normal spins but weather is holding out so hopefully all who undertake it enjoy.
