yeah, there is a difference allrite, the likes of orca, 2xu, sailfish, blueseventy suits are all swim specific, ... to mention a few.... then the likes of billabong and those would be more geared towards surfing, windsurfing, canoing , i used to wear the billabong ones when i was younger , but when i first put on a swimming specific suit.... there was a huge difference between i found.

Swim or tri specific suit are a lot more stretchy in certain places like under the arms to alow more movement, but funny eoungh feel alot more tight wen you have them on dry... As a rule they should be very snug and will loosen out in the water...

Dunno what the aldi suit is geared towards to be honest .... but i have bought aldi deals before , like when they had the cycling offers .. helmets, speedo , ect and i must say , i found everything to be great quality and still all of it in working order....

PS ive seen people do tri in non swim specific suits before and even torn ,battered , old suits with barly any rubber left on them and they seemed to get on grand. Sure if its only for a few summer races and for the sake of 35 euro.. id say go for it!!

    Thanks noeleoreid,
Your post was very helpful. I'm just doing one aqualthon this year. My first ever. I did sea swims when I was younger but never in a wet suit.

The other one I was looking at is this one (Purly on price, cause it's just one race) http://www.irishfit.eu/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4_37&products_id=1054

It just seams so expensive for one race. Does noone sell on old ones?

prob wouldnt be a huge difference between the two i dont think, I didnt want to pay lots of money either wen i was buying one, i actually ended up posting an add here on boards asking for a second hand suit, and i got one off a local lad in my area, i had it bought off him few days after i put the thread up.

At first i taught , wow, that was amazing luck i found someone selling a used suit soo quick but in fact there is an amazing amount of people doin triathlon and aquathon this summer , id say ya would easily get a second hand one off someone. It worked out well for me as I got an actual triathlon specific wetsuit at a very reasonable price.

I bought an orca equipe suit off that fella and he gave it to me for 50 quid, it was last years model but in perfect condition and served me well so far.

Just realized at the end of typing this, today is the 26th, did u buy the aldi one after all? did it turn out to be any good?

Is there a difference in wet suits?
As in swimming or canoeing etc?

How can you tell if you could swim a sea swim or triathlon in one of these?

    Thanks

for triathlon you'd need a specialist triathlon suit as special flexibility is required for the long swim. For canoeing a general purpose one like the aldi one would do fine. Although for different times of the year it would vary - you would need a thicker one (5mm) in winter preferably. This one is 3mm I would be fairly sure - would be fine for spring / summer for something like canoeing.

I would agree totally with this post and the one thing I would add is that for some sports (like windsurfing etc.) where you can expect to have a lot of contact the thicker wetsuits are recommended. The triathlon suits (I have an Aquasphere) are thin and won't take much punishment on the knees or anything like that. The tri-suits are not that expensive either, I think I got my Aquasphere for €120 online.
