so nearly everything is sorted on my new motor (im sure you all heard by now :) )

registered in my name since about Wednesday this week :)

insured in my name since monday the 20th just before i started driving it :)

in and out of work in 10 mins as opposed to an hour on the bus :)

    but

the car hasn't being taxed in a number of months but was only transferred to me when i bought it on friday and registered to me this week (fast timing by the guys in shannon i must say !)

will i have to pay the tax for the last couple of months even though i didn't own it ?

twas just sitting in the dealership !

i have a cert thing in my window to say when i bought it as to why i have no current tax so i would like to get my tax on monday

can i just give them proof of when i bought it and pay tax from when i bought it ?

really dont wanna pay for something i didn't have !

    thanks guys

other than that i love my motor and all is perfect :D

EDIT: was stopped by the guards there the other day and thankfully the woman was nice to me as i had that little paper thing in the window saying when i bought the car as i was not displaying tax or insurance (yes i was insured just not disc but explained to her i was insured !) but she said i was grand for the moment as i had the receipt thing in the window for no tax but just to be on the safe side my car is gonna sit it in all weekend... but thank you gardai for being nice :)

When I did it, I just paid the tax from the month I bought the car onwards. I can't imagine you having any hassle with it.

Yes of course. You're not liable for any tax while you didn't own the car.

Hey, bought my car in May, tax had expired in March
You only pay from the month the car is transferred to you!
If you go to motortax.ie you will see the dates where it has been with the dealer
