Who can mark your scorecard?

I was just wondering who can mark your card during a competition? I know its normally a fellow competitor but a friend recently told me that any member of the club can mark your card whether they have a handicap or not.

This seems a little odd as it means your playing your in the competition with someone that is just out for a casual round.

    Cheers,
    Dave

I'm pretty sure your friend is correct. You have to sign your card and are responsible that it shows your true score too so confirm your score after each hole with your marker and keep tabs of how your doing as the round is progressing.

Can one person in the group mark all the cards ? I was the new guy out with some guys in a friendly society outing and going down the first fairway I asked do we have the cards (with a view to swapping them) and one guy said yea I have the cards and will mark them ! I left it off cause I was new and there for a good day rather than the prizes but felt uneasy about this guy marking his own card? I'm pretty sure he's as honest as the day is long but ... ...

1 guy marking is normal enough especially in societies.but always ensure you go back through it at the end and tot up the score for yourself.one you sign the responsibility for your own scorecard being correct lies with you.take an extra card if it helps keep track.

What I've seen done is on the first tee we'd agree the loser of the first hole would mark all three cards.
I'll carry my own card too just to get the distances(pencil behind the ear;);))

I was told on the first that I was marking all three cards as I was the youngest. I was playing a stroke play comp today with a draw for the time sheet. It didn't bother me but I always doubled checked their score as I didn't want to make any mistakes.

I played the fourball the other week in a three ball, me and my team mate plus a guy out for a casual round who marked our card. We asked before hand to make sure and there was no problem.
