    Just a quick question.

I'm thinking about getting an IPad 2 with 3G; is it locked to a particular network when you buy it or can you choose which sim card to use with it.

Is it available on pay as you go or is it a contract

    Thanks

No, it's unlocked. You can get a plan from any provider.

Just wondering do you need a 3G model? Most new smartphones have wifi tethering now and it's handy just using your mobiles Internet add on instead of having another bill. Plus the wifi models are a bit cheaper. Just a thought...

The 3G model also has gps.
    That might be useful.

If you tether the iPad to an iPhone 4 using Personal Hotspot, the iPad will use the iPhone's GPS. Handy to know.

I have a WiFi iPad - 90% of the time, there's a wireless network nearby. For the other 10%, tethering is grand. Cheaper device and and it's one less bill!

It also works out cheaper to buy a wifi ipad plus a mifi device. These can be easily unlocked for use on other networks, handy when travelling.

I have a wifi only and tether it to my iPhone with the hotspot when needed. It's covered with my data package so no need for an extra bill
