    Hi Folks,

I want to raise out Boundary Wall on one side of Site for reasons of Shelter and Privacy. I was wondering about how High I can go and this seems to depend on two things.....

    1. Structural Considerations.
The present wall is constructed as above, standard solid block (Are they 18"X9"X4" or so?) with supporting pillars at regular intervals for support. Seems to me that I am immediately limited on how high this can safely and solidly go based on the structural principle/design used.

Was wondering how this is usually achieved retrospectively to increase height - For example making the supporting 'pillars' higher and more substantial or even add more of them (ie. shorter interval) to buttress the wall and allow for greater height etc.

Obviously the concern is if it ever came down an caused a serious accident to a Child in vicinity etc.

    2. Planning Restrictions/Guidelines.
I don't have a Neighbour on this side just a Lane way providing access to some land to rear of House. I know that if it was a party wall I'd be restricted to 180cm/6" but not so sure whats the story in this case?

Thought I'd mention it to Neighbour in terms of coming up how ever many rows of blocks it might be and seeking their approval.

I'd emphasize that that this wouldn't be an attempt to 'get away with' anything - would only do this if Neighbour was 100% happy as would be anxious not to annoy or inconvenience them etc. Just feel that I should know the law before making any changes.

All help and advice greatly appreciated :)

    Thanks!
