republic of ireland olympics 2012 ?

    Hi,

    Will the the republic have a team competing in the london olympics or does a country have to qualify or how does it work ?

    You have to qualify apparently. We just never do.

    Luckily our young players won't get to compete due the FAI's loyalty to Don Givens. :rolleyes:

    We hit the bar though.
    If we'd got the rub of the green at the right time in the first group of qualifiers we'd have got the extra 12 points needed to win the group.
    No-one would have wanted to play us in the subsequent play-offs or the Euro21 finals.

    Sickening bad luck.

    3 teams from the 2011 European U-21 Championship will qualify for the Olympics. There are 16 teams in total, 3 from Europe plus GB.
