    Hi,

I used to have no problem watching files from my PC on my playstation 3 (through PS3 media server). But since I moved service providers and installed a new modem, my pc will not connect up to my PS3.

Has anybody got any suggestions or tips ?

Also, I heard there is a way of actually downloading files from PC to PS3, can anybody point me in the direction for this process ?

    Thanks

You probably just haven't put the new password for the Router into the PS3 so it's not on the network.

I'm not too sure about the copying, but from a USB drive press triangle on the file you want to copy to open the options menu for the file and there should be a "Copy" option there :)

I dont think streaming from pc to ps3 is an easy thing to do (getting it to work correctly I mean). be better to do the above. upgrade your ps3 to a 500gb and transfer all the movies to it. :D Fully fledged media box/ps3. Only plays limited files though MP4/DIVX

What I do for watching media files on the PS3 is, I use an external hard drive. It's better than streaming because it works a whole lot faster. You could also just put what ever file you want to watch onto a USB and stick it into the PS3 and watch it from there.

But to fix your problem, you just need to connect your PS3 to the new Router. So go into the PS3 settings and change your internet settings to your new Router and that should fix your problem.

    Thanks for the tips all.

Thats the thing, as far as I can tell my PS3 is connected to my router (is that the same as it being connected to the internet ?) as I can download updates and play games online on PS3.

This problem is specifically using PS3 media server and TVersity. Neither seem to connect to my PS3 since I moved service providers and changed router (PS3 media server worked fine with last provider).

I have read something about changing the port to 5001 but I am not sure how to do that and my service provider were less then helpful when I phoned them!

In terms of your external media drive, I actually have one (500Gb) but I started to save important stuff on it before I heard somewhere that I have to format the drive for PS3 (is that true?) and it should be done before using the hard drive ? TBH , this would suit me better then playing stuff from my PC online to my PS3, so any tips you have on this would be most appreciated.

The drive needs to be formatted to fat32 .. and you need a program to do it (swissknife) as windows can only format up to 32gb on fat32.

You router security could be blocking the connection can you use the internet browser etc on the ps3?

Edit: sorry didnt read above post properly

Best thing to do is just plug your external HDD into the PS3 and see does it recognise it.

Get one video file, put it on the HDD.
Then plug it into a USB port on the PS3
Goto the video section of the PS3 menu and wait to see does your HDD show-up
If it does, scroll down to it and press triangle then select
(I can't remember the exact wording of the menu item and I am too lazy to go check :P ) show all.
It should show all the folders on your HDD, browse to where you placed the video file, if it's there, then your set :)

If not you will need to format the drive, so back-up all the important documents to your pc or another drive and then do the format.

Service providers wont do jack **** regarding routers.

If all else is working then your pc may not be able to get past the NAT on the router to communicate with the ps3
