Is it time to put my TV out of it's misery?

    Hi there

Not sure if this is the right place to post, but I am wondering if my TV has had it.

I have a 6-year-old Beko TV. Over the past weeks I have noticed that the picture will just freeze and the only way I can get it to work again is to turn it off at the powerpoint and then turn it back on a few seconds later. Sometimes it freezes up again immediately, sometimes minutes and hour later and sometimes it is OK for a day or so (and I start to think it has fixed itself :p)

I really am not in a position to be buying a new TV at the moment, so am wondering if there is a simple explanation for this. I know I am probably clutching at straws, but any advice welcome.

does it do this on all sources (TV, DVD, games console)?

    Hi

No, just TV (I don't have games and don't recall it happening on the DVD).

I first noticed it happening about 8 year ago for a few months and then it seemed to sort itself out and was fine for ages.

It is frozen every morning when I turn it on though. Like this morning, so I turned it off and on for a few seconds and it is running fine now.

Thing is, I am looking to rent out a room and can't do so if the TV is playing up like this but I'm not financially in a position to buy a nice big new one.

What kind of signal are you feeding it?

Sorry Peter, what do you mean by signal?:o

It's just plugged into the wall, no aerial or anything. Excuse ignorance, I am obviously not technically-minded.

The 'pictures' must come from somewhere, where does the wall connection lead?

have you got a sky box, upc box?

how many cables are comming out of the tv, (apart from the Power )

    what channels have you got?

Two cables from the TV (one being power). I have a chorus ntl black box with a good few channels... BBC, SKy etc.

The cable box is probably the source of the problem, not the tv.

Does turning the TV on/off fix the problem or are you turning the cable box on/off as well?

CRT pictures don't freeze. Unless it's a madly expensive high end "pal plus" Philips or Sony WS with digital processing.

It will be the NTL box. (UPC now).

    Oh, thanks a million, guys.

I will have a closer look at the box and make sure all the cables are connected properly. If they are and it keeps happening, I will enquire about getting another box.

    Much appreciated.

there is a chance something is overheating , so make sure there is plenty of ventilation around the TV and anyboxes especially if it happens more on warmer days
