    Hi welcome to the iPhone you will ask your self in a few days how you lived with out it
    Go to settings email click your email account make sure your password is correct for both incoming mail and out going.

    If you haven't set up mobile me yet do it now! There are loads of horror stories about people's iPhone been robbed it's free and take 3 mins to do just hit on add email account click MobileMe sign up to it!

    Hi, thanks for reply, I'm afraid no luck with that, I had an iphone3 which by the way was stolen!! When I enter password for outgoing mail it tells me "the SMTP server mail2.eircom.net doesn't support password authentication, please check account settings and try again"

    Have a look through this thread.....

    Eircom

    I looked at the eircon thread and followed the instructions as indicated but still no luck, I am now receiving the message ""the recipient was rejected by the server" Any ideas??? It now appears that I can send emails to myself but not to any other email address

    Are you with Eircom, and are you connected to WiFi when you are trying to send mail? Because it was my understanding that Eircom's outgoing server doesn't work unless you are connected to their network. In the case of a desktop client this usually means entering your ISP's outgoing server instead. Or if you are not connected to WiFi, your mobile network's outgoing server.

    Tbh though, an Eircom account isn't much use on the iPhone as it's only POP3. You really want to be using an IMAP account, such as Gmail.

    What network are you on? That's what will decide the outgoing mail server.

    If you are connected to WiFi you'll need to use UPC's outgoing server, which is

    pop3.upcmail.ie

    I'm with 3 and had this problem and the following fixed it;

    Thanks for all your help, I since tried the pop3.upcmail.ie and also mail-relay.3ireland.ie i even tried mail-relay.eircom.net but unfortunately no luck with any of these.

    However a UPC technician told me I should try smtp.o2.ie so I put this in as my primary server but that didn't work.......three hours later all of a sudden all my emails in my outbox just started sending and having sent many test emails after that (just to be sure) all seems to be in working order......happy days!!

    Would u believe I have my iphone for over a year and this is the first time that I can actually send emails
