one of the hinges seems to be broken on my dell vostro 1500

the metal hinge is stuck in an upright position and I can't seem to move it, should I try and force it? If I tray and move the monitor past 90 degrees the hinge starts pushing though plastic and breaking it.

When i close the laptop it comes off the hinge a bit so that it is raised a little, the monitor comes off the hinge a lot and I'm afraid the connection from laprop to monitor will break, what should I do, open up the laptop and remove the hinge or something?
