    Hi all,

I think i might be over worrying here so here goes. I work on contract in the public sector and my 3 year contract is up on 31 July. In March we had our Review Meeting with our backers and stakeholders and everything went really well. At the end of May we received feedback from our backers and stakeholders to say that they were extremely satisfied with our work so far. We submitted at the end of May all relevant paperwork for the final review in which our backers give us the go ahead for extra funding that will cover us for the next 2 years or not. We have not heard anything back. Meanwhile our Research manager told me that it will be until September before our backers get back to us. Now the problem is that my contract runs out at the end of July which means if nothing happens, I will be officially unemployed. What happens then? Do i work for free in August or do I sign on and wait until I get official announcement that the funds are through. What are my rights here regarding redundancy and employment rights and such?

My boss is delighted with my work so its not a question of me falling down on my work performance. Any sugestions?

Are you an individual working as a fixed term contractor or are your services contracted in by a third party? Depending on which (if you are an FTC) then the two years following a three year contract could cause problems as after four years as a fixed term contractor working directly for an organisation you are entitled to a contract of indefinite duration.

The programme that I work on is for 5 years, however when it started in 2008the money was ringfenced for 3 years. I work in a private third level institution, however I am paid by a PS body who gets their funding from the Department of Health.

Make of that as you will. :)
