How does the ECTS credit system work in UCC?

I'm just finished studying Civil and Environmental Engineering, and I was just wondering if anyone understands exactly how the grades you get in your course relates to the ECTS credits you receive, as we were never really explained this.

There's a number of things on the university's website explaining how the system relates to the American credits system (http://www.ucc.ie/en/study/international/visiting/modules/credits/) but it doesn't answer certain questions I've had like:

Do you get all 60 credits regardless of your individual module results?

Could I get 54% in a 5 credit module, 44% in a 20 credit module, and 97% in a 10 credit module, and have that still add up to the total 35 credits?

    Or is it 0.54 x 5, 0.44 x 20, and 0.97 x 10 credits awarded?

Or if you get 1H1 you get the full, 2H1 you get reduced credits, 2H2 reduced again, etc.?

Thanks for your help, not overly important for me but it might be important to someone else, and it's been annoying me, we never had the 1H1 2H1..etc. system explained either!

    Yes.

    No.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. The full what?

A 1H is like an A, a 2H1 is like a B and so on. In most courses you will get marked out of 1200 (5 credit module is 100 marks, 10 credit is 200 marks). If you get 70% or more of the 1200 at the end of the year you get a 1H over all and so on.
Hope this clears things up a little.

Just meant the full amount of credits for that module. Thanks for clearing that up though :)

And yeah I know how the percentage grading system works now but it's just funny that it was never explained to us as first years going in or anything, took me until end of second year to realise the percentage grades weren't related to A's, B's, etc. but to 1H1's and all that.
