Seamus Coleman

After a fantastic first full season at Goodison Park, mostly at right midfield, he's finally broken into the Irish team. Indications have shown that Trap sees him as a future right back and now David Moyes has publicly stated the same thing.

    http://www.nsno.co.uk/everton-news/2011/06/moyes-colemans-future-at-right-back/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+NilSatisNisiOptimumNews+%28Nil+Satis+Nisi+Optimum%29
David Moyes has stated that Seamus Coleman can fulfil his potential in his natural position at right back.
The Irish international has been played on the right of midfield since breaking into the first team last season and turned in a number of impressive performances earlier in the season. Despite that success, Moyes told evertonTV that he still hoped to move the 22 year old further back over the course of next season.
Moyes said: “We have still got to see whether he can cope as a full-back in the Premier League, what we can say is that he can play as a winger if we need him.
“There will be a little bit of a change over next season as we will look to move him a bit further back and maybe he can develop into a right back.
“Overall, his progress for us – from his loan move to Blackpool to coming back to us – you can see the strides he has made. He really has stepped up massive levels in a short space of time and we are hoping for him to keep that going over the coming seasons.”

He's going to be an important player for club and country but I'm not entirely convinced of his defensive capabilities. He's a very direct, attack minded player from what I've seen so far. Where do you think his true position is?

He played right back in his League of Ireland days with Sligo, so it's a position that he is familiar with and comfortable playing there. He just needs to get premier league experience in that position now.

Most of the time last season anyway when he was playing on the right of midfield, he was tracking back and covering Phil Neville, doubling up as a second right back anyway, so it shouldn't be that much of an adjustment. He will be the long term replacement to Neville/our RB position, so might as well blood him now there at premier league level.

He is a cracking little player, so hopefully he keeps his confidence high and progresses next season again.

He looks more than adequate in either position to me.

I think he is just too good offensively to have at full back.

Having watched plenty of Seamus i'd be keeping him on the wing for another while. He's a lot to learn to be a full back in the premiership. Was lucky on 3/4 occasions last season not to concede peno's. Cant remember which games to be honest. Good honest player and delighted for him as i've been a told he's a great lad from people in killybegs.

After watching the Chelsea match, highlights of the United match and a few other earlier games.. I can't help but notice Coleman has severely worked on his crossing and his play as a winger, rather than a wingback style player, would anyone agree?

Its good to see him constantly improving.

Yeah he has improved in the last 12 months.has been very effective all season.was hoping he would start playing RB for Everton ,just from the Irish teams position.could do with a rb,dont have anyone capable if O'Shea isnt fit.

I think his current game would offer us more on the wing than McGeady or Hunt to be honest.

Would love to see him at least given a chance with irish team.Hopefully,IF we qualify the friendlies are used to blood a few of the younger lads like Coleman.

Well there are Steven Reid and Joey O'Brien playing right back at their clubs and both are better than the alternatives to O'Shea. Coleman looks a better right midfielder than right back to me.

Reid wont play for Trap but O'Brien is a good shout, doing well for the Hammers.Good to see him back, still has plenty to offer.Had a few tough years but only 25.Has he played for West Ham in Midfield anytime this season?Wasnt that his natural position?

So would mine and she died in the seventies. How Coleman is not in the first 11 is beyond belief.

There's many more in the team that should be dropped before McGeady.

    That's your opinion.

McGeady is muck and has never performed for Ireland. In 44 caps he's had maybe 2 good games. Just because there may be others in the squad who might be muck too, doesn't make him any less muck!

Aye, it's all subjective like you said.

Personally, apart from Dunne and Given, I consider him the team's most invaluable player at this moment in time.

I thought Coleman put in a great shift yesterday. Should definitely be starting for Ireland.

I wouldn't agree with that at all. Duff can cross the ball and McGeady can't. McGeady just fails at something basic that is essential for a winger.

The thing is, the way Trap sets the team up both wingers are left completely isolated. So McGeady's ability to dribble past two defenders and then drive the ball into the shins of the third makes it look like he is achieving something. But, like the rest of the attacking players in the team, he very rarely achieves anything. Duff would actually put in some good crosses if the team managed any sort of half decent spell of possession. McGeady would still be mis-hitting his crosses regardless.

McGeady has been frustrating, but in his most recent few games for qualifying he has improved an awful lot. Duff on the otherhand hasn't looked the same player he once was.

He's been playing a stormer of late, he should defo be in the national team or as the first impact sub. Great to see Doyle (Pats, Cork), Fahey (Pats) and Coleman (Sligo) in the squad.

Coleman. "Impact sub". Good footballer is all.

Wes Hoolahan captained Norwich this weekend and has been an outstanding player for Norwich for a couple of years now, and Blackpool, Livingston and Shels previously. Should definitely be given a proper crack at the Irish squad but I'd hold out little hope.

can't really judge it on crossing with the fact Keane and increasingly Doyle really lack heading ability or positioning in the box for crosses.

Well you can really. If he consistently crosses it out of play then it really does not matter who he has to aim at. He finds the ballboy more often than his teammates

McGeady has been good this campaign in fairness to him, I know he is a frustrating player to watch, but he is the only man in our squad who can do something out of the normal, he is probably our best player at club level, and when I see an 11 without him I'm disappointed, Duffs days are over at this level IMO, McGeady and Coleman on the wings is what I would go for in the next campaign.

Keane's positioning is fine imo. But even if it wasn't the fact remains that McGeady is unable to cross the ball and that is a big loss to the attack.

I'm not sure how you would really define that, but I would say that Given, Dunne, Hoolihan and Long are all clearly better players who are all producing consistently for their clubs.
