i only started watching dexter last month, finnished it in 2 weeks, i think bar season 3 there all strong, but id probably give it to season 1 as that was the season that got me hooked, and it just got better from there, season 3 while the weakest was still ok when your just skipping through 3 or 4 episodes at a time, ive always heard a lot of talk about trinity so i was expecting a lot when i got to season 4, and while it was good i actually thought season 5 was better, with dexter and lumen having great cemestry, i would really have liked if she stuck around,

i think maybe the hype of season 4 and the fact i knew rita wasnt gonna be around after season 4 as she was on no ordinary family, maybe took away from it,

I am a aware there are five seasons. Just didnt think anyone would rate season five as the best season.

I'd give Season 1 the nod, with Season 4 coming from behind (naked in the bathroom, of course). Season 2 had a lot of Doakes vs. Dexter goodness, but was sullied by Lila's presence, which just stank the whole season out somewhat. Series 3 was just sort of 'there', in the way that, outside of a few moments, left little lasting impression.

The only reason Season 4 even falls behind is because of the slightly lazy arc of Kyle Butler, where it got to the point that no writing, no matter how clever, could get Dexter out of the fact that his behaviour should've gotten him caught.

Season 1 is almost majestic in its structure. It had everything sub-plotted that later season would go on to use as whole arcs, the longing for family/loss of family, Doakes' suspicion, the struggles with the code, the killer of series stuff, realization that he's just damaged, not completely beyond some sort of redemption et al. Just brill from tip-to-toe.

I liked season 1 the best.
Since then it has gone downhill. Season 4 being of good quality was an anomoly. The utter ****ness of season five more than compensated for this.

I think Season 4 by a long shot, though the only season I disliked was 3, at more then one point I was contemplating just forgetting about it altogether. I thought Season 5 was good but mainly for the Quinn/Dexter subplot, that was great in my opinion.

Season 1 by far...Loved the Doakes v Dexter scenes.
I think the writers themselves know they made a massive mistake writing Doakes out of it..
From bringing in Ludley, Quinn and this new guy they're all just pretty poor imitations.
The potential with Doakes was huge especially with his military background etc and they royally fúcked up.

It's a tough one to call, really.

Season 1 was incredible, because you were beginning to get used to this character and there were numerous plot twists all the time, but Season 2 was good as well, because you had Doakes vs Dexter, and Doakes was a great character. Season 3 was relatively uneventful, if I remember correctly - was that the season of the Bay Harbour Butcher? Season 4 was largely terrible, until the Trinity Killer story got into full swing. Season 5 was absolutely diabolical.

So, if I were to pick in descending order then it would be Season 1, 4, 2, 3 and 5.

Dexter 1: Dexter is unable to form human relationships. His life is killing people - everything else is a front or means for that.

Dexter now: Has meaningful relationships with several others, though slightly aloof. Has a fairly normal life apart from killing people, which he accommodates in his life.

Not nearly so interesting really.

Watched 2 seasons and I thought season 2 was better than season one.

Currently watching season 3, struggling through it, very poor compared to previous years IMO, looking forward to getting past it and onto season 4.

Just finished watching season 4 and i'm fúcking gobsmacked at the finale, the final scenes in particular. Best season by a mile for that episode alone.
