I was driving the oh's Citroen C4 Grand yesterday eveing and noticed a whistling coming from rear passenger wheel which goes when I press the brake.Obviously its an issue with the brakes but I'm wondering what exactly it is. Has anyone any ideas?

Sounds like your rear pads are rubbing on the discs..Have you had the rear disc/pads replaced lately..?

No they weren't replaced. Maybe they need replacing now. Could that be the reason?

If it is a whistling noise then it may be brake dust on the pads. Remove the wheel and check the pads. If pads are ok, remove them and give the area a good spray of brake cleaner.

Check for a bird's nest in behind the wheel arch

Thanks for all the replies people. Will try that out tomorrow.

Daegarty, I checked for the nest and no sign. Though I might have ran over a referee too but checked that out also.:P

If the noise goes when you press the brake then its almost certainly the wear clips on the pads squeeling, telling you they need replacing.

It can sometimes be a stone or some grit cought too.
