Most standard schools do at least 5.
Doing 14 is a bit ridiculous.

So you guys have to do religion but science is a choice? Very strange. Art/business seems a strange choice as does spanish/tech graph.

    We had to do:
    English
    Irish
    Maths
    Science
    Geography
    History
    CSPE.

    Pick one language:
    French
    German.

    Pick two of the following:
    Business
    Metalwork
    Woodwork
    Home Ec
    Art
    Business
    Tech Graph.
    Music.

Yes, that is quite strange. I've never seen science as an optional subject for Junior Cert.

Many schools would have Science as an option. Not every school has the same facilities/staffing levels.

It's an early introduction to how unequal a system we have, I suppose.

Yeah, I got to a very small school, only about 22 teachers, and around 250 students, and we only have 20 rooms, and only one of them is a science room, we dont have enough room to have everyone doing science, we have two science classes in my year as it is, and the classes need to alternate between being in the demo room and the lab every day so everyone gets to do lab work :/
Small schools are better imo though, we know everyone and the classes are smaller ^^

    In my school, everyone does:
    English
    Irish
    Maths
    French
    History
    Geography
    Science
    Business
    CSPE

And you choose 1 of these:
    Art (which I did)
    Music
    Technology
    Computers
    Spanish
    Classical Studies

Big schools, (generally) better facilities. We have 4 science labs. And everyone gets to do science. Tbh, I'd take proper facilities over knowing everyone/smaller classes.

Whoa! that's a lot of subjects... Doing 5 languages must have gotten confusing, the only modern language you didn't do is the most common, French

    Anyway I did 11
    English, Maths and Irish
    Science, Geography and History
    CSPE and Religion
    Spanish, Wood work and Art

Yeah it was. We had the option to do French but I had already done it in primary and didn't like it.

I only did eight, but it was quite a while ago; we were actually the very first group to do the JC, back in 1992. English, Irish, French, Maths, History, Geography, Business, Science. I really pity anyone doing the five million subjects that are on it nowadays!
