Got a 2.5 Pajero a few weeks back for a work commute cause my M3 could not handle the road and the 2.5 was just not enough for me..... I also have to drive to Roscommon a bit from Wexford and this commute was just a killer not being able to overtake and was takin 3 hours plus on a bad day.... Sold my 2.5 and was lookin around and saw this....

Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution for sale in Waterford: €5,500 - DoneDeal.co.uk

Going to drive it this evening, am i mad????

What are they like if something goes wrong, many parts out there??? I know its going to be bad on petrol but when i drive the 2.5 on to Roscommon im still using 50 euro to get there as im in top gear doing 4500 revs, are they much worse??? Id say if i did buy it i would have to marry it doubt it would ever sell really.... Only other thing i could find out there was a Subaru Forrester but can you make these a commercial??? The Evo will be commercialised and DOE'd for me... Anyone ever had one and info for me... Cheers...

    Or something like this???

    http://www.carzone.ie/search/Subaru/Forester/2.5XT-TU/201116202127684/advert?channel=CARS

Can you make a Forester a comercial?? The Forester is alot younger and id say would do pretty much the same job???

I have never owned a Subaru this is why im askin here, Cheers..

Both are VERY thirsty machines, yes the Forester can be commercialised, I've DOE'd a couple of Pajero Evo's and the back suspension give a lot of trouble in them and parts can be a pain, also bear in mind that the handling on both is still all Jeep.

Try a BMW X5, plenty of power, very economical compared to the Forester and Evo and handle's very well.

True, but if you're under 40 you end up looking like a knob or a drug dealer, or both.

back to the actual main topic though... yes a pajero evo will be faster than a 2.5td but it'll be nothing like an M3, though going from an M3 to a 4x4 and expecting it to be in any way similar is kind of nuts!

I have seen a few of those in the garage. Don't think there is much to them apart from bucket seats, leccie windows and stickers.

Cheap one here for ya, make a nice little project for the winter ;)

there isn't. there was a "lotus" one as well or something, they got more stuff, but that was the 3.1td version

Anyway that trooper there has a bit of a dodgy reg situation, would want a bit of goin over to see if it was a ringer or not what with the 98 reg in UK.
I'd say it'll probably go to africa

Does the ad mean imported to the uk in 98 I wonder?

correct. nothing dodgy about that registration. just means it was re-registered (imported into uk) in 1998. you see plenty of jap 3.1 troopers (field star, irmscher and lotus models) with 00 plates even seen a 3.1 with a 03 plate recently. On the documentation it should also say the model year which tells you the age.:)

Check the seatbelt tags, most Japanese stuff has a date stamp on the seatbelt tag. That will give the date of manufacture.

I'd go for the forester over the pajero.

they're very much more like a car than a jeep, they're great craic to drive, not gonna set the world on fire in real performance terms relative to an M3, but if you're so inclined they're very tunable, they're running a detuned impreza drivetrain.

Sure i have an M3 for the power and a Cooper Works so the Pajero is for a bad road commute and i love it.... Well so does the woman... Going to body shop to get a few small bits done and had to get new evo badges, very costly... I doubt ill ever meet another one on the road also... I knew of 2 and 1 was crashed and in a scrap yard and the other is for sale... Anyone else know of any other road going ones???

I actually DOE tested that Pajero in 2007, it failed on, ABS light not working, driver seat loose, imbalance in the front brakes, worn track rod ends, front suspension bushes worn and loads of bushes worn in the rear suspension, the owner had it parked up then for a good while as parts were unavailable and expensive, he never returned it for the retest and afaik he sold it on untested.

It was owned by a mechanic for the last year and all the bits are actually easy to get on the net and obviously all done cause i bought it.... It was NCT'd yes got its NCT last month which is a harder test now altogether than a DOE after all that ****e that happened....

    Thank you...:D:D:D

ditto on getting the parts online, you'd be hard pushed to find anything you couldn't get cheap for a pajero off ebay.

i should know, i just bought a new head (fully built up kit with everything included) for my 2.8 for less than €500 delivered and it was here from the UK in a couple of days. :)
