unlocked uk smartphone & meteor network

was wondering would it be possible to buy a smartphone on net from UK firm and used it as ready to go in Ireland on Meteor. Advertiser lists it as unlocked. Reputable seller. Seems ok. Does anyone know is it just a case of putting my sim into it? Also does anyone know if ORANGE and METEOR networks are the same? Thanks
