[REVIEW REQUEST] Emerson Bowman Style PTT Headset

If you're getting the full rig, just be aware that the ptt box itself can be tetchy - that exposed button has a habit of catching on your rig and jamming the channel open. Happened to a load of people last weekend at Rionegro game (at least to judge by the comms channel).

    Try one like this:
    http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/combat-gears/headsets/z-tactical-tci-tactical-headset-cable-and-ptt.html

The push button here is sunk into the ptt box housing - it's practically impossible to hit 'send' unless you intend to. Also it's sturdy and well put together (I've a few different types and these seem to be the sturdiest).

As for the headset itself - it's ok - pretty good sound quality and the open structure of the ear piece stops it getting too hot around the ear (as opposed to the 'swimmer' types which completely enclose the ear and are basically sweat traps).
However, if your radio is set too loud there's a bit of spill out from the headset with this design. But overall the pros outweigh the cons.

Also thanks for the PTT recommendation!

No worries dude - been through so many of these things that I'd hate to see people make the same mistakes I've had with comms.

My main problem now is getting the right radio type - the Rionegro game exposed the limitations of the motorola I was using so need something better.

Kev, have you looked into the Intek MT50-50? Not going to go into why, but if you look it up, you'll see.

Been toying with the getting one of these for myself. It has the same pin reqiurement as Icom radios, so you would need to buy a pin adapter, easily gotten for about €10.

Cheers Marcus - I actually have an icom ptt (bought by mistake) so I'd be able to use it easily enough. Did a bit of a google on it there - seems good. I've had nothing but hassle with the XTN446 (nothing to do with the radio - bought second hand and reckon it was knackered at the get go) so it's time for a change.
