Yes another course query from a 6th year, sorry. redface.gif

I'm putting Biomedical Science as my first choice on my CAO form.

Can anyone students past and present give me a student's perspective on this course?

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

Biomedical Science in First year is much like all other sciences and also Foundation Medicine. You do the three general sciences, biology chemistry and physics, and also you have a Biomedical Science module in which various seminars on anatomy/pharmacology etc are given. In semester 2, you must complete a group project on one of the topics from the seminars.

Labs are a huge component of 1st Science, biology chemistry and physics. You have 9 hours of lectures a week, and about 8 hours of labs a week. The one hour biomedical science seminars takes you to about 18 hours a week, less tutorials.

The class size is only 60, so you'll get to know the class quite well. There's usually a coffee morning for biomedical science students at the very beginning of term to help you all get to know one another, but you end up making friends in labs. All biomeds are put into the same labs and that's where I made my friends.

The work load isn't tough, it gets hard in second year where you chose 3 of the 4 health sciences: Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology and Biochemistry.

It's a hugely well run course, and the course coodrinators Dr Grealy and Dr Roche are hands on and you'll see them a lot. Good choice, in my opinion.
