    Hi everyone :D

I wonder if anyone can tell me if it's possible to get Old Garda case files.....One i'm looking for would be from the year 1989...Is that possible at all, or do they dispose of them after a certain length of time ?

PS: thanks to whoever wishes to answer :D

Hi...the case file is to do with me...I wasn't arrested or anything like that...i was 5 when said crime was committed....It was a sex crime....I think you can fill in the rest there, but yeah is it possible ?

    PS: it's for counseling purposes!

Check out the freedom of information website. It might help. Also ask your counselor about how to go about it. If s/he has dealt with cases like yours in the past they may know how to go about getting what you need.

    Sorry to hear this.

Do discuss this with your counsellor, it isn't something to be undertaken lightly.

Depending on how the case proceeded, access may be difficult (even if the file still exists) and consulting a solicitor may be useful (but perhaps not absolutely necessary). You might not be able to access the whole file insofar as it deals with other people or legal matters.

There is a Garda office in Thurles(?) that deals with data protection-type files.
