I received an endorsement on my licence 3 years ago (2 year driving ban).
I am now looking to get back on the road.
I was told I need to go to a solicitor to renew my licence?
    Is this true?
    Anyone have experience of this?

Ban should be lifted automatically 2 years to the day of when it was instated. The endorsment will remain on your license for the next five years from that date.

I went to the courthouse where I handed in my licence - gave them my details and they said I need to see a solicitor to sort it out?!

My previous licence has expired. I am looking for a renewal.

I am not keen on spending money on solicitors fees at this time.

Sorry, the endorsement would be 5 years from the date of the ban being implemented. E.g. banned 1/1/10, ban lifted 1/1/12, endorsement until 1/1/15. I.e. when renewing your insurance after the ban being lifted you have to inform your insurance company that you have an endorsement and then they will ask for what? Once the endorsement has expired you're all clear.

Not 100% on this but when you get a ban don't you have to volunteer your license there and then? You can redeem same once the ban has been lifted / expired.

Rhonda, as you license has expired you need to fill out a licence renewal form, as you normally would. There is a section on the form relating to endorsements. Just tick the box stating that your licence is required to carry an endorsement.
Send/bring the form to you local motor tax office, along with 2 passport sized photos(with your signature on the back of each) and the fee ( not sure, but thinks its 25e)

Its as simple as that. No solicitor required.

My question is my licence has expired (the one I handed in), I am now able to get back on the road (2 years have passed),
I am being told I need to go to a solicitor to get a renewal of my licence?

But so far it sounds like I don't.

    I . am . confused.

    Please help.

    Thanks for that.

So the lady at the desk gave me the wrong info.

I thought it didn't sound right.

Yes, she did. Easier for her if you went and paid a solicitor for the information. Saved her the bother of shifting her ass into second gear and being helpful. :pac:
