Private Van (Private Tax & Insurance)

    Hi

I have a C4 car van that has been privately taxed since I got it 2 years ago. It had been taxed privately since it was registered as the tax book states it as J.2 Private (Tax class).

It's been off the road since January and decided to insure and tax it again. I had great difficulty insuring it as I've been insured with Quinn Direct for 3 years (accident so couldn't leave them) and they got real funny with me saying because it's a van they couldn't insure it private. I said fine can I insure it commercially and said because you are unemployed no.

Anyway I did finally get it insured private with someone else

Now, my stomach is in knots thinking if I'll have the same issue taxing it?

Because it's a 2006 will I be asked for an NCT or DOE? I've been told you can't NCT a van and what's the point DOE'ing it if I want private tax and the van has a private tax book?

    Any info appreciated, thanks

sell it and buy a car.

You'd don't need an NCT to tax anything. As it's designed as a commercial you will still need to DOE it. You don't need the DOE for tax, but you will need it when a Garda asks for your certificate of roadworthiness.
Also, with the DOE once the vehicle is over 1 year old it needs to be tested, unlike 4 years for the NCT.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

OP's taxing it privately, so they don't require it. For commercial tax you'll need it alright.
