Local mechanic went to repair erg valve in my car with weld. Inlet manifold was off. Weld broke and piece went into engine.caused a lot of damage. Have given it to different mechanic and repair is going to cost just under 3K. Any advice on pursuing original mechanic through insurance etc? Was not going to let him repair it as his incompetence caused damage in first place.

I would have went straight back to the first lad now you probably have no come back. What the heck was he doing with a weld? Would ye not just replace it in the first place. What kind of car/engine was it?

Demand he sorts it, see the reaction and go from there.

Get an independent report confirming that was the root cause of the engine failure and present him with that. €3k is a big wedge so do things properly.

What in the name of God was he welding for, there are blanking plates for the EGR available for that engine and failing that it's easy to make one.

Have you approached the original guy about the problem?

Think this is best advice. Don't think roaring/shouting or solicitor's letter will get me anywhere
