Another question about hunting licences

    I know this question has probably been answered hundreds of times already but. . . . . .

    do you have to have a gun to apply for a deer hunting licence or does your gun need to be over .22/250

    There's a muzzle energy limit Shane, it's possible and legal to meet it with a .22/250 with a specific load, but most people will choose a higher caliber instead.

    Doubtful as it would be very hard/impossible to reach the required muzzle velocity/energy with a .223

    .220 Swift will make it though ;)

    you have to get the deer hunting licence first. fill in this form include your written permissions from landowners http://www.npws.ie/media/npws/publications/legaldocs/Deer%20Hunting%20Application%20Form.pdf

    after this has been granted you have to go through the application process for getting a new rifle. you'll get that from the garda station.

    i got my deer licence on my .22/250,had it for two years for foxes before i applied for deer licence.i know a lad who tried to get it on 220 swift and not a chance,so id doubt thers any hope for .223
