Reported today that RTE News Now will show Oxegen coverage in addition to the audio service on 2FM.

Is it time RTE put in place a 'red button' service for additional coverage of events, Oxegen is hardly news and I'm surprised it fits in the format of the channel.

    Just a thought... !

Well at least they are using the space they have for something happening NOW (this weekend). I'm tempted to suggest they could have used RTE Jr over the weekend as that's empty at the moment I think.

Well, not for another two weeks, but yes:

RTÉ (and Irish broadcasters in general) for some reason have made no development of red button services, despite digital TV have being available in one form or another in this country since 1998. The usual excuse being given that they were waiting for DTT, but to be honest since most people's primary television will be on cable and satellite I don't see why they couldn't have developed services on Sky and UPC. Even with Saorview around now they seem to have no plans to do anything beyond digital Aertel.

Well I guess RTÉ NN is a start. Been watching Glasto for most of the day & U2 last night. If MUX 2 was up & running & RTÉ Two shafted over then perhaps the bandwidth might be available for extra streams. But then the legislation probably wouldn't allow it. I wonder will RTÉ remove the NN frame to allow a full screen rendition.
