New apps on iBook G4?

Mac is from 2004 with 768MB/1GHz/40GB. Can this be upgraded to handle newer apps like Openoffice, iTunes and other apps?

For Openoffice 1.1 it seems it can take it but for Openoffice 3 I need to upgrade OS to 10.4
    Is that free?

Btw, what's the highest OS I can fit on the G4 without killing performance?

    Edit, seems to be Leopard

I'd recommend sticking with Tiger (10.4) if possible. I had the same machine and I never bothered upgrading it to Leopard, which was a bigger resource hog than Tiger. It's not free unfortunately and Apple don't sell it anymore, but you'll probably be able to find it on Ebay. Just make sure it's the retail disc.

Once you upgrade to 10.4, Software Update should give you the latest version of iTunes that you can use.

Try libreoffice, will probably cap you off if you are on Tiger.

Nm guys, gf wants to have a Windows computer instead.
She use Windows stuff at work and have concerns over compatibility.
I've tried to say Mac can be used anyway but to no avail.
