What was going on by the station about 10a.m today? Saw the military vehicles and about 8 soldiers, but it was the huge guns they had that made me want to get past as quickly as possible!!!!!

It was more than likely a drop of money into the banks. This happens all the time in the bigger towns.

Brinks were delivering/collecting money from the bank, the gardai and army escort these deliveries regularly as the above poster says.

Regularly seen weekday mornings in the town. Bringing money to the banks indeed.
