Questions on veneers.

On my last trip to the dentist, he commented on the 'patch job' I had done on my front tooth several years ago.

It is basically a cap held into position by a little pin another Dentist had fixed to my tooth years ago. I'm surprised it has stayed on so long tbh.

Anyway, he said he could put a veneer on both front teeth and greatly improve the appearance.

    I have three questions.
    1. My gum is a good bit lower on my right front too compared to my left one. Can you do anything about this with veneers? ie, push the gum up, or slice a bit off (that sounds unlikely though)
    2. Would he remove the existing cap in order to fix the new veneer in place?
Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Hi OP, I've edited your post as detailed in my PM.
In regards to the technical aspects of your situation, the dentists here can provide anecdotal suggestions but ultimately your own dentist will make the decision on what he/she thinks is the best course of action that will give you the best look.

Lastlaugh, you have picked up a point that a lot of people dont consider as important the symmetry of the gum. The gum can be adjusted to match the highest one or you can have the higher tooth pulled down to bring the gum with it.

The old filling (cap) will usually be removed and the space it occupied filled with porcelain on the veneer.

I have always been a bit paranoid about it tbh, realistically I know it's not the end of the world though. I think I would ask for it to be done if he could do it.

Thanks for the clarification on the cap removal.
