Hi,I hope this isn't a silly question(have searched here but can't find quite the answer I'm looking for).We have an open fire with back boiler heating water and rads at the moment. If we were to put in a stove would we have to remove existing back boiler and buy a stove with one attached or is it possible to simply attach the stove to the existing back boiler set up?Thanks in advance,MsH

You would need a stove with a back boiler fitted as you cant use the old back boiler with the new stove. The stove and boiler come as one. It would be very worthwhile efficiency wise. Your installer will recommend what size stove/back boiler you would need from a site survey.

You would need to disconnect the back boiler to connect the existing pipework to the new stoves back boiler but not necesarily remove the old back boiler, although recommended. It depends if you want to open up the fireplace and have the stove freestanding in the opening. Or if the hearth is the required size for building regs you could just place the new stove on new or existing hearth and connect the stove back boiler to the existing pipework. If the old boiler is left in place it is vital that the old connections are not capped or blocked and are free to vent if someone re-instates the open fire.

    Good luck. Stove Fan:)
