Hi, I'm wondering if anyone could possibly talk me through how to fix my computer. I turned it on a few days ago and 3 error messages popped up. They are as follows:
1)CS%ServiceManager.exe - The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0150002).
2)sprtcmd.exe - .Net Framework Initialisation Error - C:/Windows/Microsoft.Net/Framework/v2.0.50727/ could not be loaded
3)iTunes helper was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7.
Then when I try and open Microsoft Word/Excel, Adobe, iTunes, any image files (that's all the programs I'm aware of so far) I get this message:
The application has failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.
Has anyone else experienced similar problems or know how to rectify it? I've tried a few things like Windows updates, virus scanning, the command sfcscannow but to no avail. I've also tried googling it but I didn't find any troubleshooting that worked in my particular case.
Any advice would be much appreciated? Or would I be better taking it to a professional?
I have Windows 7 and a 64 bit computer by the way.

Try reinstalling the various versions of Microsofts .net or try to install the below Windows update, then reinstall your apps and try open them again.

I've reinstalled the C++ microsoft files but it hasn't helped. When you say reinstall the apps - do you mean reinstall the different programs? I'm in the UK at the moment and I don't have the original discs with me and with iTunes I don't want to lose my library. I've tried repairing the files but this doesn't work either. Any other suggestions?

Yep. When I have see this message, either the runtime dll's have to be reinstalled or .net itself has to be reinstalled. But the apps always need to be reinstalled after.

Still no joy. I don't suppose you have any other tricks up your sleeve?

Reinstall Windows. When .net goes wrong it can be next to impossible to fix.

or do a restore, less drastic and may fix your issue.

    Oh yeah, forgot about that.

reinstall the Office Service pack may be an easier method!

Just spent the day on this error for a client. His might be a different cause than yours though. Are you able to open microsoft office documents ok? Can you check and then post back here?
I think it might relate to the visual c++ library on your pc.

    Update.
Sorry gibo_ie just saw your post now. In my clients case it was also related to the office service pack but we still had to reinstall vc 2005 etc

Hey..thanks for all your suggestions. I'm not sure if reinstalling the Office pack will be enough as it's also affecting image files. I've tried reinstalling .net framework and new C++ software but to no avail. I'm thinking at this stage of just clearing my computer and doing a restoring factory settings... is this a bit drastic? Are there any downsides to doing this? Thanks again for all the help..

system restore in win7 will just revert you to a point in time - ideally one before you installed whatever caused these issues etc

Try the restore first before you blow away your OS.

    Edit: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspx

^^ this shows you how to properly remove the .net framework - i'd give that a go first.

    hello emily,
the reason your image files are affected is because office picture viewer is set as your your default image viewer. If right click on the image-->choose "open with.."--->Windows Photo Viewer(as opposed to Office Photo Viewer) the picture will open.
As stated previously the problem is with your windows office software and not directly with the OS. This is because of a faulty Office Service Pack 1 install.

Try to go to start -->controll panel -->programme and features--> and in the left menu panel choose "view installed updates" -->and uninstall Office Service Pack 1 then reboot.

If you dont see Office Service Pack 1 you will need to download Revo Uninstaller (the free version) and run that. You may well see several versions of Office Service Pack 1 in the list. Just run it on the first instance and it will remove all trace of it and reboot.

Then post back the results here.

actually - did we get to see the app log? You should have a detailed error message in there.

hit your windows button, type eventvwr and hit enter. It should be under windows logs> application log - look for red icons.

That worked for the pictures...thanks!! Before I try your other suggestions though, photoshop and some other adobe programs won't open for me either so that would suggest it's not just the office pack that's affected wouldn't it?

    Hello emily,
The client also had issues with adobe and iTunes. However the lappy had been through several I(nternet)T(hingy) techies before I got to see it. Adobe and itunes had been uninstalled by then.I was asked to just fix the main complaint as the client needed the lappy for work.
The lappy will be returned to me in the next few hours so that I can sign off on it (and get paid!).I will have a more in depth look at it at that stage.
The problem stems from a faulty/partial office service pack install which messes with th vc++ library. This has a knock on effect on other programs using the library(like itunes,Adobe).
In the mean time if you need access to your word documents, repeat the steps for images but choose wordpad as default or download openoffice and do same.
Sorry I cant be of more assistance at this time.

I saw the error on a clients machine recently and it was a hard drive issue.

Run chksdk just to be sure

This is a copy of just some of the errors from the event viewer... I'm only including a small portion of them. Should there really be THIS many. The one thing I noticed is that the side by side error pops up several weeks ago, whereas I've only been having problems since the 15/16th June. I've also uninstalled iTunes in the last few days so the bonjor errors have stopped. Does this provide any insight into the problems? Could this be a virus or is it just an internal problem? And apologies for the novella of errors!!

Anyone got any ideas/hunches on the above?

Final Q...my computer is still showing up the error messages after all my failed attempts at fixing it. Should I just restore factory settings? Would uninstalling the Office pack help at this stage?

your original issue was with .net 2.0 - you need to remove and reinstall that, not 4.0

did you try the system restore yet?

No not yet..I'm just home in Ireland again now so will try the .net 2.0 avenue first and keep you posted. Thanks :)

all the restore will do is reapply settings from back before certain dates - it wont remove docs etc - i'd just try that first.

I tried to install .Net Framework 2.0 for a 64-bit computer but it's saying it's already installed on my computer. Though I can't see it under add/remove programs. Also, I'm planning to basically reboot my computer back to factory settings rather than do a restore.

i dont understand why you'd do that - a restore is easier and faster.

    Hello Emily,
I have had a similiar problem lately.I too tried reinstalling .net and the c++ library.
The reason you cant see c++ 2 etc is that in win 7 they are an integrated part of the os and dont show up as standalone prog's.All you can do is go to -->controll-->prog and features--> and left click turn windows features on or off--> and make sure .net enabled on versions.
We found that the problem was linked to an office 2007 service pack so the only solution was a factory restore, removal of win office 2007 and an update.
    Sorry for the bad news.

The reason I can't do a restore is because it won't restore to before the date when all the problems surfaced. Any idea Kravice why my Office pack just suddenly decided to implode and bring the rest of my comp down with it and how I can avoid this happening again? Think I'll take your advice though... thanks

^^ this shows you how to properly remove the .net framework - i'd give that a go first.

    did you try that first?

Your restore should have snapshots going back until you originally installed the OS btw.
