Do remember that FETAC is subject to the public sector embargo and alot of their staff have retired and not been replaced and the result is that they are very short staffed and it is very hard to get an answer on the telephone.

However with reference to your query I am not very sure as to what you are asking but you should refer to the National Framework of Qualifications to see where the FETAC level 6 is positioned. If you could clarify what you are asking or maybe why then we could help you. Generally a Hon Leaving Cert would be considered level 5 on the framework so level 6 is above that.

Level 6 FETAC is regarded as 3rd level.

I have never got an answer from FETAC, either from the phone or e-mail. I think that no-one is working there.

In fairness, it doesn't take much googling to get the framework here. As you can see, Level 6 is beyond Leaving Cert level.

In fairness yourself! Some people like to have a second opinion. Isnt this what these boards are about? I was informed that some low level PLC courses/ VEC were considered second level and I wanted to double check.

If you call into your local VEC, they have charts to tell where you are in the "learning curve". But the chances are (with our VECs) you will find a cranky receptionist who hasn't a clue.

I can tell you (positively) that Level 6 is Third Level. I'm a Tutor of FETAC for the past 11 years.

Wishing you well with your endeavours.

And I posted a link to the official framework (not an opinion) - isn't that what you came on looking for?

Let's be honest, my neighbour's 10 year old grandchild could develop a more "user friendly" site than the FETAC site.

They don't answer the phone either, seriously!!!!

While on the face of it what you say is true, it is possible to do level 6 in Colleges of Further Education, and because of a quirk of historical circumstance these are considered to be second level by the department. I was reluctant to reply as I think it depends on why the OP was asking - it seemed as though s/he was possibly not asking the right question.

<mod note> We'll have less of that, thanks. You asked a question, people answered.>
