Ok. I just bought a new MacBook pro an used the migration assistant to transfer all my programs and documents etc across.

My question which somebody may be able to answer is: has all the information on the other computer gone across or do people generally find that some things don't cross over? I've a 1 tb drive in both machines (95% full )and checking each file individually would take a very long time. It dies seem like everything is there but with 950 gigs used you never can be sure. The problem is worse as I have somebody interested in buying my old machine from me and I want to format the drive in it.

Would you consider buying an external drive and copying your old one onto it just in case? Then wipe your old drive and sell. Then later on when you are comfortable you have an external drive to use as a backup of your new machine.

Cheers. Bought a spare external and set it up for time machine backups.
