Anyone have any suggestions for a format for a Classic that adds a new twist to the traditional 4 man team event.

I'm looking at running one for a fundraising for our GAA club and have done the traditional 4 man team event, 2 scores count for the last few years. I've noted that the classics aren't going that well at present and was wondering is their another slant that can be used to attract golfers be it an single open competition, two man team event, scramble etc etc.

    Any guidance much appreciated. Thanks.

Maybe you could have something like all scores to count on par 3's or something, I've seen that one done before

A 4 man betterball can be good craic. Even bad golfers can post a decent score with that format.

In the current economic climate, the single most important component to give a good chance of success is "value for money".
Don't expect to make as much money as classics were making during the boom - set a realistic fundraising target. People have to weigh up taking time off work as well as the cost - all set against a background of pay cuts, job losses, etc.
Sound out what people are prepared to pay for your classic. My experience of club fundraisers is that people will come if you get the price right, maybe include a value buffet meal and get the message out there.
You could also include a "yellow ball" competition within the competition - one yellow ball per team, everyone has to use it on at least 4 holes and the teams, that still have the yellow ball at the end of the comp., qualify for a prize.
    Good luck!

I liked the idea of that "waltz" idea that someone mentioned on the Boards outing thread last week.

One score to count on the 1st, two scores on the 2nd, three scores on the 3rd, one score on the 4th, two scores on the 5th....... one, two, three, one, two, three, etc...

    Cheers for the replies.

I'd be well aware that the money isn't going to be there like it was but luckily we have a corporate sponsor in place from a club man that even if we don't make anything else from from golf will give the club a few quid but he needs to have an event take place to ensure he can drawdown this money from his parent organisation.

I like the yellow ball idea. We are looking for something that may draw the members at the course to play for a small charge. We also will have a good sponsored prize - 4ball and overnight in Carton House.

A twist on the "yellow ball" competition that I've heard societies doing for fun(each 3 ball in a society is given a yellow ball, each player in the 3 person team takes turns to use it. Penalty for losing the ball - can't win the team competition but still in the singles).

    2 scores to count for the 1st 16 holes, 3 on 17 and 4 on 18

The twist is that for the 2 to count one of the scores has to be nominated
e.g. player a scores on 1,5,9 & 13 etc, the other counting score being the better ball of the 3.

use to hate the yellow ball game.

the ball was always a rock that use to be impossible to stop.
