Anyone got any experience of this...I am looking at changing my car next month but when I looked at a quote online with my current insurer it's coming out as over double my current premium for my existing car. I looked at other insurers and found one that will insure the new car for even less than I am paying for my current motor which is really good :D.

So what I am wondering is will my current insurer seek additional payment to compensate for the change of car?

If this is the case I will cancel my current insurance and switch to the cheaper insurer but will this be a problem switching as the full year will not be up with my current insurer?

You will only have to pay the outstanding balance as of the day you cancel

You will not recieve a no claim bouns for the current year

Forget about online quotes, ring your current insurer for a quote on the new car. Re the other quote, make sure you're comparing like with like. There will also most likely be a cancellation charge on your current policy. Other than that, you just need to decide whether the net saving is worth the loss of NCB.

I wouldnt be to sure about the cancellation charge, I had to do this once as I changed car and my insurer at the time wouldnt cover me on the new car, when I rang and cancelled I was sent a cheque for 60 euro by them, and I payed my insurance by the month. Maybe mine was a once off.

Yes I have the full NCB with a couple of years over so from that point of view I am fine, I will ring my insurer in the morning and see what they say.

Yep, was 5 months into a policy with Hibernian, changed to a Celica, Hibs wanted looney money off me, guts of a grand I think, Quinn Direct wanted €600 iirc for the entire year, I had full NCD anyway so wasn't bothered about the NCD for that year.

But as Anan1 mentioned better to ring them to see the lay of the land, online stuff not great for existing customers.

Might they have still owed you that after charges? In any case, it'll all be in the t&cs that were issued to the OP with the policy.
